There are many famous people who have made a great name for themselves not only despite their dyslexia but because of the benefits it has brought to their creativity, persistence, drive and ambition.
Cher, one of the best selling music artists of all time, is one of them.
Cher dropped out of high school two weeks into the eleventh grade with difficulties in reading and writing, thought by her teachers to be lacking in motivation. Unwilling to allow this failure to define her, she became an actress and then a singer, quickly becoming a household name and achieving worldwide notoriety.
It wasn’t until she reached adulthood that she learned that she had dyslexia and it brought understanding of some of the challenges she had faced growing up. Cher didn’t let anything stop her. She has won numerous awards for her acting and sold over 140 million records. She has also been a fashion designer, a film producer, a writer and an avid supporter of charitable foundations.
If it hadn’t been for her dyslexia and the drive, perception, imagination and concentration it provided, it might have been a different story.
